The Weimar Republic: Political Struggle in Germany - EN

January 1919. The Great War is lost, the Kaiser has abdicated, and Germany's first democracy is born into economic ruin and street violence. The Weimar Republic is a card-driven game of political struggle in interwar Germany, following the fragile republic year by year from 1919 to 1933. Four factions fight for the country's future: the democratic Coalition, the Soviet-backed Communists, the National Socialists and the far-right Radical Conservatives.

Over two rounds per year you spend cards to agitate in Germany's regions and cities, push reforms or sabotage them, recruit fighting men, call strikes and uprisings, and swing elections in the Reichstag. Alliances shift constantly as the factions' goals overlap and collide, and the historical outcome is never guaranteed. Designed by Gunnar Holmbäck for GMT Games, it plays with one to four players and includes a solitaire system and a range of scenarios from a 90-minute tutorial to the full 15-year campaign.
